Bridging the Gap between CAD and CAE

“In this global market, Multi-CAD (Computer Aided Design) environments are becoming a standard. For CAE analysts doing finite element analysis, their world revolves around a CAD/CAE iterative cycle of model, mesh, analyze, and manually update models based on CAE results; then repeat. Integrated CAD and CAE applications with associative update, together with automatic meshing algorithms, have reduced the amount of time users have needed to perform these iterations. Even so, roadblocks still occur. Between receiving the CAD model from design engineering, and execution of a meshing algorithm, CAE analysts overwhelmingly report the need to do MODEL CLEAN UP. A curve deliminating the useful parts of a surface. A surface and all its boundary curves make one boundary surface which is topologically linked to a face.

Bounding Geometry

3D_Evolution Simplifier generates a bounding geometry for 3D models through extraction of the internal geometry. This bounding geometry is useful for IP protection. Gegenüber sog. "wrapping" Verfahren erzeugt der Simplifier a qualitative first-class solid geometry.

C.S.G.

Constructive Solid Geometry is a method for modelling bodies used in 3D-Computer graphics and CAD programs, amongst others. CSG allows designers to generate complex surface areas and bodies, using boolean operators to combine objects

CAD

The term computer-aided construction or Computer Aided Design (CAD) refers to the creation of engineering data for mechanical, electrical or electronic products with the aid of special software, e.g in plant and mechanical engineering , automotive and aircraft industries, shipbuilding, dentistry (Cerec) and in architecture, in construction and fashion design.

CAD Interoperability

Describes the capability of integrated, cross-system useage of CAD data in development process. CAD Migration Change of CAD systems with accompanying conversion of legacy data. The feature based conversion is the best procedure since the useful intelligence i.e. the construction history and construction elements of the models are sustained and can be directly processed in the target system. Look under 3D_Evolution Featurebased.

CAD Migration

Collaboration Gateway

Term for a system for data forwarding and data reception.

Data formats

Most programs focus on a seperate data format. This complicates data exchange between the different CAD programs, the reason why approaches to standardizations are aspired. 3D_Evolution works with native interfaces, independently from quality of interfaces. We differentiate between CAD system-neutral and CAD system-specific data formats.
With CAD system-neutral formats only the transfer of edges, surfaces and volume models is usually possible. The construction history is usually lost, making the transferred data only partly useable. CAD system-specific data formats allow for a complete transfer of the CAD models, but are only available for a few systems.
